Courage and Change

“It takes a lot of courage to the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.”  Alan Cohen

Change takes courage. Change is uncomfortable for many, resisted by many more. The “rut” is comfortable, it has your shape, your groove, your rhythm. The problem is, from the rut you don’t have a view. It is dark and deep, like a bear’s den.

Leaving the place of comfort and familiarity takes courage. The rut is too dark, and you have already memorized every inch of it. You are becoming uncomfortable in the rut, but still don’t want to move. Life is too scary, too big, too noisy. But, you are bored, oh so bored, and your friends and family are tired of hearing how miserable you are.

It is your choice, no one else’s. You can’t borrow courage. Are you going to peek outside your rut and see what wonders are awaiting you? Feel your toes in the grass, the sun on your face, and live!

“The opposite of courage isn’t fear, it’s complacency.”
