My favourite acronym for FEAR is "Forgetting Everything is All Right"
It brings me back to a place of peace and relief when I am caught up in the gruelling grip of it. Here is what I have to offer you, when you too are sideswiped by this powerful emotion:
Breathe. It’s all OK. The horrible feeling you are experiencing is not real; it is mind-made. Think about it: What created the fear? What are you thinking? Is what you are thinking a real event occurring right now? Most likely it's not. Acknowledge this amazing discovery. The fear is not real! It’s only in your mind.
*Your mind is a very powerful tool that can be very good or very bad for you depending on your thought patterns.*
Fear is one of those thought patterns. Your mind believes that your thoughts are real, and the funny thing is, your body cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined. This is why you feel sick when you think fearful thoughts. Your body really thinks you are in danger.
I'm sure you can remember a time when you were in the middle of a fearful experience; Your heart pounded, your palms were slick with sweat, your stomach was clenched in horrible knots, and you lost your breath and your peace of mind all at once. It is a horrible feeling, and I want you to know it is not something you have to live with. You can conquer it.
The next time fear has you in its clutches use this acronym to get you back on track:
STOP and be aware of how your body is feeling.
TAKE a deep refreshing breath.
ACKNOWLEDGE that the fear is not real. It is mind made.
RESET your mind. Replace the fear with positive, nurturing thoughts and know that you are in charge of what you choose to think.
